Take a trip to the Chiropractor.
If you have a colicky baby, and other forms of treatment don’t seem to be helping very much, you may want to investigate taking your baby to a chiropractor
Colic usually starts within the first 4 weeks of life and normally resolving by 3 – 4 months of age. It affects 20% of all babies.
The crying lasts for more than 3 hours per day, more than 3 days per week for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Evening crying is accompanied with redness in the face, clenched fists, knees tightly drawn to the chest, flatulence and loud tummy growls/bowel grumbles.
What causes colic?
There is no single cause of colic. Birth and early infancy can sometimes be a very difficult and traumatic time for both mother and baby.
Stresses increase with quick or prolonged labour or if the baby is positioned incorrectly. Assissted delivery using forceps, vantouse suction and caesarean sections can also add to the stresses.
These stresses and injuries can result in the tightening of muscles in the baby’s spinal column which can cause the vertebrae to lose their normal motion. This can in turn irritate or put stress onto the nerves that branch out from the spinal cord which supply the various organs and tissues of the body.
The chiropractic treatment of a baby is different from that which would be necessary for an adult. The infant’s spine is more flexible and the manipulation is adapted to make certain that only the lightest pressure is used. These can be done while the parent is holding the child.
Babies usually tolerate spinal evaluation and adjusting quite well, with no more discomfort than that caused by a physical examination.
Controlled clinical studies show chiropractic spinal manipulation therapy to be successful in the treatment of infantile colic.
